Worship

“Worship is an it-is-well-with-my-soul experience.” - Robert Webber

At Ankeny United Church, we recognize that the true work of the church takes place outside of our sanctuary wallls. However, in order to create change in the world, we must first change ourselves. To renew others, we must first be renewed. Worship at Ankeny United Church is meant to rejuvenate us and prepare us for the work of changing the world for the better, by filling our spirits and restoring our weary souls. Through hymns, prayer and praise, we glorify God as we are equipped to bring more light in our darkened world. Through thoughtful Biblical exegesis and prophetic preaching, our worship aims to create a world where love and justice can be freely experienced by all.

In Person

If you want to get more involved in worship, there are participation cards you can take as you pick up the morning’s bulletin. There is an option to assist in lighting the candles, collecting the offering, reading scripture, or helping in our welcome and call to worship. Or, if participation isn’t your thing, you can relax in the pew and let the worship service renew and restore you for the road ahead. Whatever your preference might be, you will find a place here with us!

When you come to worship with us at 10:30am on Sunday mornings, all you need to do is bring your heart and willingness to be open to God’s presence in your life. There is no dress code, no requirements for entry, and no expectations or judgment. Heck, even our pastor is covered in tattoos! At Ankeny United Church, everyone is welcome just as they are, and we know that you’ll find a home with us.
