Exploring Progressive Christian Theology

April 20, 2016 by Pastor Nathan

We are entering our second sermon on Exploring Progressive Christian Theology. Last week, we talked about the way that interrogating texts to understand the way they spoke in original context so that we may be guided to explore our own context and see how we may use them to bring comfort to people who find themselves excluded and challenge to ourselves and others when we are inclined to exclude.

This week, we extend the exploration into the importance of acting to change the world we are in, and especially how to be stewards of God’s creation. What do we do when we do not assume that Jesus will return to lift us out of chaos? What story can we tell about our place in the world and where we must go from here?

And as we think about where to go from here, I bear the sad (and joyful) news that our Coordinator for Christian Education, Medea Saunders, who is an ordained Methodist minister, has been appointed by her bishop as pastor of a small Methodist church south of Indianola (in addition to her duties as a Hospice Chaplain!). This is sad for us, as she has served us through her Sunday morning leadership, valentines for the homebound, an excellent Advent workshop and consistent, well-thought children’s programming on Wednesday nights. Join me in wishing her well as she serves us through our Sunday School year, ending on May 22.
