Who is Righteous?
As Mark tells the story, the Pharisees in Levi’s house assume that the people Jesus is eating with are not righteous. Jesus turns it around and questions their authority to decide who counts and who doesn’t count. In the capitol hill insurrection, we saw people who thought some votes shouldn’t count. In the midst of it all, Jesus reminds us to always question our instinct that some people ought to count and others ought not to count, and to ask instead, what future can we build when all people count?
