Water in the Desert
Bible Text: John 4:1-41 | Preacher: Nathan Willard | Series: Narrative Lectionary Year 4
Water is a recurring theme in John’s gospel. As we look at the Samaritan woman, outcast and alone but seemingly blameless, we see the radical message that Jesus’s water is for all people. This is a message that groups like No More Deaths and Humane Borders bring to the Southwestern desert where people die of thirst and hunger while crossing the border. To vandalize water in the desert is to ignore the basic obligation Jesus asks us to take on.
