James famously warns us that faith without faithful action is dead. In the preceding stories he tells, he makes clear that the highest virtue is mercy, and that leaving people to starve with only good wishes is not faithful action.

We are faced with an enormous human crisis as a result of the Syrian civil wars. Where can we find hope and faithful action?
