We practice an open table in Ankeny UCC, meaning, all are welcome to take communion. Why do we do that, when Paul seems to argue that we need to have a common understanding of communion to take communion? Maybe Paul is making a comment about the community in Corinth and maybe, following Martin Luther and John Wesley, Jesus is present at the table with us, and that presence is for all people.
