Choosing Not to See
In John's account of Jesus's healing of the man born blind, we see the message of the transfiguration: yes, God does great works. Let us go down among the people, who need us. In a world full of suffering, we can choose, as the Pharisees do, to pretend problems do not exist among people in our pews and our groups. Or we can do as Jesus does, and work to make all the places we gather safe spaces for people to admit when powerful people and beloved people have done wrong, and to work towards a true reconciliation. Warning: there is extensive talk about abuse.
