In 2019, Ankeny United Church took a bold step with our Capital Campaign, and converted our backyard from turf grass to prairie. The Good Earth Prairie was born! Many of the native prairie plants are well-established now. We’re pleased to do our little part to be good environmental stewards, and to encourage a plant and animal friendly environment.
In 2022-2023, we’ve enhanced the prairie even more, by adding an interpretive sign at the southeast corner:
…and a pergola, featuring patio swing chairs.
Early in the process, we jump-started the prairie by harvesting some plants from a local city facility.
