We are a still Speaking Congregation!
God is still speaking is a proclamation, identity and communication ministry of the United Church of Christ.
We spread the message of God's extravagant welcome, reaching out especially to those who have felt there is no room for them within Christianity and the church - the excluded and alienated, the spiritually homeless, the questioning.
In partnership with other ministries of the United Church of Christ, we are building communities where diverse people join together to worship, grow and dream.
Over the past several years we have sought to follow the pathway of Jesus with this still speaking mind set. We have come to understand that the day of a churched culture has come to a close, and that the day of the mission field church has arrived.
Our new direction and vision embraces an identity as a mission church, or what some have called a mission outpost church. We feel challenged by the still speaking God to travel beyond the doors of our building. We know that although it may be easier to stay within the confines of our building, our true calling is to move out into the world.
We have made this change of direction through a grass root movement of mission and transformation. Our new vision looks at the world in which we live with realistic eyes. It is clear to us that our world is no longer the church cultured environment of the 40's and 50's. It is a new time.
We believe that this is not a time to lament the lost church culture of the past as much as it is a time to rejoice in the new day God offers us. We do not despair about losing what is past because we know that God works through real Easter moments. These times of resurrection happen over and over again. As our congregation awakens to this new vision and mission, we understand our future to be filled with opportunities that create real joy and excitement. We believe that God has planted us deep within the soil of one of the richest mission fields of our world!
This is a time of new ground breaking for our church household. We understand that God is calling us to be a Mission church, not a professional church. We are concerned first and foremost about being apostles of the Jesus Way. Our church mission is about a call to integrity of mission. Our church growth will not be measured in numbers of members, but first by our faithfulness to God as we share the Kingdom and Way of Jesus. Our fundamental charge is to serve, and our basis for movement into the world is found is God's love for all the Divine's creatures.
What counts in a Mission (Outpost) church is the Spirit. In a mission field church the main concern for the church is sharing the Good News (God's unconditional love for all). We strive to be lean and strong, to share our courage and vision, and to lead with love. Our teams and membership, compelled by the love of our Creator, gather at the front lines of human hurts and hopes. This is where our lives are formed, shared, envisioned, and lived out. Our new commitment to compassion in the way of Jesus is for mission not mortar and bricks.
As we look into the future, we find that our identity has taken shape in the midst of difficult and challenging relational times. We recognize that there are many who need to hear, feel, and understand the love of God is truly accessible. God is in the world, and can be in the church as well. It is our belief that to become a faithful church, we must be in the world.
One of the distinguishing characteristics of our community is found in our common search for hope and meaning. As we seek, we find commonality in our mission as God's agents of love. Our mission is found not in uniformity, but in unity. This unity is strengthened, not diminished, by the diversity of our talents and passions. In our unity there is no gap or chasm between pastor or mission team, leaders or boards. We embrace the priesthood of all believers. All are vital to the mission - all have the highest calling! In our vision there is no caste system, we are God's people together.
